Cupcake Ornament

Supplies
1 or 2 colors of 6”x6” Doodlebug Potpourri paper packs
White glitter paper (optional to create frosting effect)
Paper cup or plastic container with cover
1 - Styrofoam ball size 3” 30017676
Ribbon of your choice 12” length
Screw eye or jewelry finding eye pin (for hanger)

*You can also experiment using different size circles

 

Directions

Cupcake base: Measure the paper cup from the bottom measure 1-1/2” and mark with the pen. Turn the cup quarter way measure 1-1/2” and mark. Turn the cup quarter way measure 1-1/2” and mark. Turn the cup quarter way measure 1-1/2” and mark. Draw a line to connect the four marked points. Carefully, use the craft knife and cut at the marked line. Glue the styrofoam ball on the paper cup.

 

If you are using the plastic container, cut styrofoam in half and glue to the cover.

 

Cupcake Liner: Choose cupcake base paper cut 3 strips size 1-1/2”. Accordions fold 1/8” the strips to form a cupcake liner. Wrap the paper around the paper cup and glue in place. Cut away access paper. Glue the ribbon along the top edge of the liner.

 

Cupcake:

Row 1 – Choose one pattern of paper and punch 1” circles you will need approximately 14-15 pieces. Start at the top edge of the cupcake liner place the circle on the styrofoam and glue in place take the next piece of circle overlap the first circle and glue in place. Continue to glue the circles make sure to space them evenly to cover the styrofoam ball.

 

Row 2 – Choose coordinating paper punch out approximately 12-13 circles. Position the circle to overlap the first row and glue in place. Continue to glue the circles to cover the styrofoam ball.

 

Row 3 – Choose another coordinating paper punch out approximately 10-11 circles. Position the circle to overlap the second row and glue in place. Continue to glue the circles to cover the styrofoam ball.

 

Row 4 – Choose another paper or use white glitter paper to create the frosting, punch about 5-7 circles. Position the circle to overlap the third row and glue in place. Continue to glue the circles to cover the top of the styrofoam ball.

 

Topping punch out 2 flowers and glue to the top of the cupcake.

 

Screw the screw eye to the top, middle of the flower. If you are using the eye pin, poke a hole to the center of the flower into the styrofoam, apply glue to the base of the eye pin and insert in the hole.
